ZONING: Akwa Ibom Youth Beat Up PDP Chapter Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo condemns Uruan Assault
Some Youths of Uruan led by Hon Joseph Obot, the former Transition Committee Secretary, Yesterday descended heavily on the Chapter Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr Obot Essien during a birthday party in Uyo.
The war broke out when the Chapter chairman mentioned that the House of Assembly seat was zoned to North -Central and the entire youths, which were majorly the supporters of Hon Aniekan Bassey raged and resorted to violence to protest the claim.
Some of the Youths were chanting that, if the incumbent, Hon. Aniekan Bassey is not given a second term, then Central Uruan is the right zone to represent Uruan in the 7th Assembly.
They were furious with the Chapter Chairman, who has openly shown his support for Hon. Tony Akan from the Northern Uruan.
In their words, the Youths said, Northern Uruan have had their turn in Hon Usenobong Akpabio for eight years, arguing that any mistake to give the ticket of PDP to Tony Akan, will plunge Uruan back into opposition politics.
The youths who threw stones and broken bottles to send people scampering, also shot into the air and chased all the elders who were in the function, shouting, 'No' to Northern Uruan.
Mr Obot Essien who was left in the pool of his blood sustained injuries on his head, with his nose cut off, and he was rushed to a nearby Hospital for medical attention.
It will be recalled the caucus of Uruan have zoned the House of Assembly seat to North-Central bloc with micro Zoning to central Uruan, who for over 20 years have not tested the position.
Mrs Alice Edet one of the women who gathered in group also accused Tony Akan of giving local oath (Mbiam) to all the PDP Executives across the wards before constituting them during his days as the Local Government Chairman.
Mrs Alice begged the Governor to intervene in Uruan Nation to avoid violence and the ceeding of Uruan to APC.

"Henceforth, any act(s) of violence by aspirants or their supporters will receive heavy punitive measures."
