Annangs List conditions to Support  Udom Emmanuel

Annang nation the second largest ethnic nationality in Akwa Ibom State has given some conditions Governor Udom Emmanuel should meet before supporting the Second term ambition of the Akwa Ibom State Chief Executive.

Speaking through a former Deputy Governor of the state and a  leader of the nation Chris Ekpenyong said, the Annang demand amongst other things the completion and furnishing of the four points by Sheraton Hotel, completion and commissioning of Uyo-Ikot Ekpene road, citing of industries in Annang land as well as appointments of Annang sons and daughters into positions of responsibilities in the Udom Emmanuel administration.

Ekpenyong who spoke the minds of his kinsmen last week during a rally organized by Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District to endorse Governor Udom Emmanuel and Senator Godswill Akpabio however added that for their brother and fellow Annang man, Godswill Akpabio will be returned to the senate unopposed.

The former Deputy Governor who received the nod of Godswill Akpabio and top personalities of Annang land re-echoed what Senator Akpabio said some months back that all is not well in the Senatorial District.

Ekpenyong expressed disapproval with the leadership strides of Udom Emmanuel and screamed blue murder if the Senatorial District saying that the area and Annang region have been grossly marginalized, maligned and rejected.

He added that the earlier the State Governor attends to the demands of Annang nation, the better it would be for his second term ambition adding that Annang nation cannot afford to support a Government that has not followed up on the strides her brother Godswill Akpabio did for them.

He threw spanners at the many industries cited in ONNA where the Governor hails and maintained matters of fact that Annang nation will only bite for Udom Emmanuel if the Governor meets their conditions for support.

Elders and leaders of Annang nation like Godswill Akpabio, Senator Ibokessien and many others were filled with excitement as they were burning with smiles when Chris Ekpenyong spoke apparently urging the Ex Deputy Governor who now runs a major hospitality outfit in the state to ride on.

To give credit and stamp to the position of Ekpenyong, Godswill Akpabio when he stood up to speak did not reverse the threats and or demands of Ekpenyong.

The former Governor acknowledged the contributions of Ekpenyong on the day and added rather flippantly that he does not care which particular political party takes him to the Senate for a second term.

Notable Annang leaders present at the reception rally mobilized support fro Chris Ekpenyong acknowledging that the Obot Akara born politician was a true representative of the Annang people.

The threat handed by Ekpenyong remains to be seen whether it will spur up the state Governor into accepting the bait by the Annang.

But Senator Anietie Okon, a notable Ibibio leader was quick to disagree with Chris Ekpenyong over the comment.

Okon in a moment of anger went to Akpabio and asked if that was the agreement of the Annangs and why the Annang should list conditions for supporting Udom.

The former National Spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party while further expressing his views on the matter queried what the problem is with Chris Ekpenyong and expressed the optimism that the ex Deputy Governor is playing the ethnic card.

Anietie Okon expressed dismay and anger why the Senate minority leader whom Governor Udom Emmanuel have protected and covered up will have the mind to make what he described as outrageous demands before he could mobilize his Annang kinsmen to support the second term bid of the Governor.

Okon was even more angry that the former Governor went about his own speech as nothing was wrong adding that of the position of Annang as conveyed by Chris Ekpenyong was not a clear attempt to ambush Udom Emmanuel that the ex Governor would have put the records of Udom Emmanuel's achievements in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District straight.

The second republic Senator however added that if for anything, the Annanhs should be grateful that Gov. Udom Emmanuel is cool headed enough to accommodate and tolerate all the excesses of Akpabio despite all the provocations the ex Governor have been throwing at his successor.

  1. This is totally unacceptable. Akpabio concentrated his developments on annang land and deprived the ibibio's their due right. He picketed the commonwealth of akwa ibom people to enriched his family members and cronies. With or without annang votes, udom can still corner enough votes from ESD and USD. PERIOD
